You’re as Good As The Quality of Help You Get

One of the wittiest comedians I know is South African-born Trevor Noah. I think he is brilliant because he balances wit and humour perfectly. Trevor has grown into a big celebrity since he moved from South Africa to the US and became the host of the Daily Show.

Trevor always looks prim and proper when he comes for a show. But I noticed a difference between the current Trevor and the Trevor before his big break. There is now someone dedicated to making sure Trevor looks his best, has the perfect clothes and is always portrayed in the best light possible. That’s a good thing because it frees up Trevor to focus on doing what he does best — deliver content and be the star of the show. There is a team dedicated to making sure Trevor keeps winning by paying attention to the tiniest detail about him.

The real difference between the old Trevor and the new Trevor is the quality of help he can afford to get. Better help means he will keep winning with the combined effort of others behind him.

You are as good as the team you have around you. The team does not necessarily have to be work-related — anyone that is involved in your affairs and wellbeing counts. The quality of help you get makes all the difference. Some helpers are stumbling blocks; others make your life easier in ways you could never have done by yourself.

A unique type of helper is an instructor or mentor. Athletes have a coach. It takes a lot of discipline to listen and they obey a coach. They stick to the coach’s plan in detail to get the most out of their selves. They are strict about what they eat when they sleep when they practice when they rest.

We all need someone that knows, someone outside of us to instruct us in matters we don’t have as good a bird's eye view as the coach does.

Getting the right quality of help improves the quality of our lives.
